»BEACH, SEA & DUNES

Your feet sink into the shifting sand.
Grains of sand tickle your toes.

De Haan has the longest beach of the whole Belgian coast. In the seaside resorts, there is a lot of commotion. Children build sand castles or make sand figures, while mummy and daddy, or granny and grandad enjoy the sun. Further on, youngsters play a game of beach volleyball, encouraged by their friends, sunglasses on top of their head. They get a tan without even noticing it.

Children splash about in the sea. From his tower, a life guard keeps an eye on things. Near the sailing club, a few surfers go into the sea. Their wet suit shows off every inch of their young, muscular body. On one of the many terraces, you can watch all the holiday scenes, with a nice, cool drink in your hand. The drops on the glass sparkle in the sun.

In between the seaside resorts, you'll find bits of unspoilt beach, where there is, above all, tranquillity. The perfect place for those who quietly wish to enjoy the sun. Seagulls shriek. The rippling waves roll onto the beach.

This is a paradise for walkers. Strolling along the waterline, quickly climbing the dunes for a view over the vast polderland. And strolling on barefoot, the salty water flushing away the tickly grains of sand from in between your toes.
